2009 Tournament Rules

Please note that the 2009 Sam Steele Ball Tournament is SPN sanctioned.  SPN rules are in effect.  We do however have some house rules which are listed below.

1. Be sure to have fun. After all, It is a game!
2. Submit your roster to the beer gardens at the Kinsman Quad Diamonds before your first game.
3. SPN rules are in effect.
4. All umpires decisions are final.
5. A coin toss will determine home team for each game.
6. Only SPN and NSA approved bats are allowed. Bats listed on the 2009 NSA Non-Approved Bat List will not be allowed
7. No drinking or foul language on the ball fields or dug-outs. The umpire may eject you from the game for disruptive behavior.
8. Pitches must travel between 6 feet and 12 feet from the ground.
9. Runner must run behind the home plate/mat, if a runner touches any part of the home plate or mat; it results in an automatic out (for Men’s divisions, home plate is in use).
10. Mercy rule is in effect 12 runs up after 5 complete innings
11. International Tiebreaker rule is in effect.
12. In mixed play, no more than 2 male batters batting in a row.
13. No more than 3 courtesy runners per game. * Rule change for 2009
14. No innings to start after 1 hour and 5 minutes on Friday and Saturday.  No innings to start after 1 hour and 20 minutes on Sunday.
15. There will be no time limit for semifinal and final games in all divisions.
16. Stealing is allowed in the Men’s Divisions only. A runner can’t leave the base until the ball is hit or crosses the plane of the plate.
17. If a male batter walks on any count and a female batter follows, the male batter advances to second base and the female batter has the option to bat or advance to first.
18. The commitment line is in effect, once you cross it you can’t go back to third.
19. No sliding at home in Mixed divisions. In Men’s divisions, sliding is allowed at home.
20. Teams are allowed only 6 runs per inning.  The final inning is open. * Rule change for 2009
21. The “match plus 2” home run rule is in effect for all games in all divisions. If a team exceeds the “match plus 2” home run rule, that home run will be considered an out.  In the final inning the home team will be match only. * Rule change for 2009
22. No bunting or chopping at the ball.
23. Mixed teams must field no more than 6 males and no less than 4 females. Mixed teams may bat up to 12 batters, the 11th and 12th batters have to be a man and a woman. Men’s teams can bat up to 11 batters.
24. No metal cleats.
25. There will be no “IF NECESSARY” games.  All Final Games will be one game only. * Rule change for 2009
26. NO PROVISIONS WILL BE MADE FOR PLAYERS WHO CHOOSE TO PLAY ON BOTH MIXED AND MENS TEAMS. ORGANIZERS WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CONFLICTING GAMES. TEAMS WHO CANNOT FIELD A SQUAD AT GAME TIME WILL DEFAULT. ORGANIZERS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO AMEND IF REQUIRED.
27. Again, have fun, After all, It is a game!
